Under the 2023 Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund, the opening ceremony for Training on Making Tourism More Sustainable in Cultural Heritage Destinations in the Post-Pandemic was held on 26 August at the Golden Palace Hotel in Bagan City.
Deputy Minister U Phyo Zaw Soe explained that training was opened based on the outcome of the Seminar on Making Tourism More Sustainable in Cultural Heritage Destinations in the Post-Pandemic held on 23 August in Bagan, with the presence of representatives and experts from Mekong-Lancang member states. Myanmar’s hotel and tourism sector saw four projects operated under the 2021-2023 Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund: The establishment of the Tourism Research Centre project in 2021, the establishment of the Bakery & Pastry Training project in 2022, the construction project of the Centre for Tourism Development – Keng Tung in 2023 and Making Tourism more Sustainable on Cultural Heritage Destinations in Post Pandemic Project – Bagan.
He remarked that the implementation of projects could exchange ideas and knowledge among Mekong-Lancang members, tackle challenges in the post-pandemic period, and draw up management policies and sustainable strategies for preserving cultural heritage destinations. The ministry will endeavour to explore the benefits of successful project management to recover the tourism industry.
He also urged trainees to realize theoretical concepts for preserving cultural heritage destinations, tourism destination management policy and procedures, tourism promotion and human resource development strategies, apply in practical situations, and participate in sustainable development efforts of Myanmar’s tourism industry.
The deputy minister, officials concerned with related departments, the hotels and tourism associations, civil service organizations, hotel managers, and trainers and trainees attended the opening ceremony. — NN/KK
