Myanmar possesses 261,228 square miles of land area and 144,912 square miles of waters with the coastal lines formed with more than 1,400 islands endowed with natural beauties, natural resources and economic opportunities as well as good sound foundations for operating the maritime and coastal tourism services.
The recently-constituted Myanmar Coast Guard is responsible for the security of sea lanes of communication and deep seaports. Moreover, the guard must protect the Myanmar fishermen in the seas while searching and arresting the illegal fishers.
The Myanmar Coast Guard was formed with the aim of protecting the ocean-based economy called the blue economy such as marine tourism, maritime trade, deep seaport services, offshore oil and natural gas production and marine fishing, preventing the illegal trepass in the seas and ensuring the rule of law in the sea.
The Coast Guard needs to cooperate with the Tatmadaw (Navy) in searching and rescuing the victims in the sea and bringing back Myanmar citizens from other countries. As such, servicemen of the Myanmar Coast Guard must implement the vision and mission of the corps in line with the theme: ‘Guard, Protect and Save Our Sea’.

Myanmar Coast Guard is assigned to protect the area from the coasts to the specific economic water zone while the Tatmadaw (Navy) is safeguarding the natural resources and integrity of the nation forever along the outer ring.

The Coast Guard needs to emphasize realization of the constabulary role and the benign role with the protection of maritime interests, search and rescue for victims in the sea and sea environmental conservation with a wide range of monitoring all activities underwater and above water in the Myanmar water territory.
The troops of the Coast Guard must strive for improvement of their capacity and capability to be relied on by the State and the people in serving the patrol, arresting the law violators, arms smugglers and human traffickers, illegal fishermen and those committing crimes and combating perpetrators of the nation in the Myanmar water territory.
Primarily, the troops of the Coast Guard must be loyal to the people, the Tatmadaw and the State with the sacrifice of their lives in protecting the interests of the nation in their assigned areas. They will be recognized as good and able citizens of the country.
