Toddy fruits which are seasonal and medicinal ones flowed into Mandalay’s consumer market, and seven nuts of toddy fruits fetch K1,000.
U Kaw San, a seller of toddy fruit from Shante village, Meiktila Township, said a toddy fruit contains around three nuts, and it is juicy and the best to eat at present.
In Mandalay Region, Meiktila Township is the first to produce toddy fruits, and TadaU is last to produce the fruit in the season. There are more than 10 to 20 vendors from the regions who are selling at the southern archway of Bawdigon Pagoda and along the northern road of Mandalay University (Main Campus).
A bunch comprises some 20 toddy fruits. It costs about K2,500 as transport charge to Mandalay. Toddy plants can bear about one and a half months when the sellers can bag more than K1 million as an extra income.—Min Htet Aung (Mandalay Sub-Printing House)/KZW
