Tomatoes are selling well in Mongyawng Township in eastern Shan State, with farmers seeing high yields this year.
The growers are doing well, as tomatoes are bringing in handsome profits due to the high demand. Tomato cultivation starts in January after the growers sow the seedlings. It starts producing green tomatoes after three months, said a local tomato grower.
Tomatoes are harvested in March. Their price is some Ks10,000 for 20 kilograms.
The prevailing price of tomatoes is around Ks400-Ks500 per kilogram in the villages, and slightly higher in the towns.
