Local farmers are unhappy with the falling prices of tomato in Yenangyoung Township, Magway Region, as there are high supplies of tomato in Yenangyoung, according to local farmers. Tomato is grown mostly in Phaungkataw, Pinwa, Mhanmyay and Kyankinekyaung village-tracts in Yenangyoung Township.
“There is a high tomato supply this year, compared to last year, so local farmers don’t receive a good price. The wholesale price of tomato is K 450 per viss. If we sell tomato in Myoma market, we will earn K 600 per viss. We get only K 100,000 if we grow three acres of tomato. So, we don’t have any profits”, said Daw Win Win from Kyankinekyaung village-tract.
The price of tomato declined in Yenangyoung because the tomato from Kyaukpadaung Township entered the Yenangyoung retail market.—Hsan Nyount (Yenangyoung) (Translated by Hay Mar)
