Torrential rain caused flash flood in Kyaukkyi, Bago Region, yesterday inundating the low-lying areas and the residents were evacuated.
The water level in the Sittoung River reached its danger mark yesterday morning and overflow water from the river submerged the low-lying areas affecting 128 households.
A total of 564 people from the low-lying areas moved to temporary shelters set up at monasteries and pagodas.
The flood also forced three basic education schools to be closed.
Local authorities, Tatmadaw members and volunteers assisted the people in shifting to the shelters and provided food and water to them. — Ko Thar Gyi (Kyaukkyi)(Translated by TTN)
