Traditional horse races in Meiktila

A traditional horse racing competition for the 59th Sutaung Chantar Shwebonthar Pagoda Buddha Puzaniya festival in Khanni Village-tract in Meiktila Township, Mandalay Region was held yesterday.
The annual event is held every 4th Waning day of Tabaung. The event lasts for only one evening and the horse riders are usually invited from around Meiktila. Since this event is only held once a year and only for one evening, people from over 50 neighboring villages, including Thitakan, Teepingone, Kanni, Lun Ngin, Thaepingone, Konethar, Teegone, Letkhotepin, and Tharyargone, come spectate
This year’s event saw five horse riders compete for first prize of Ks 150,000, second prize of Ks 70,000, and the third prize of Ks 50,000. –Chantha (Meiktila)
