Traffickers sentenced to jail for human trafficking

Yangon’s North District Court sentenced a man to ten years imprisonment with labour for his involvement in trafficking people to China on 22 July.
The victim Ma…, aged 29, from the Hlinethaya Township, was persuaded by her boyfriend Soe Tun Aung, from the Htantabin Township of Yangon Region, that they will be married and earned a living together in Mandalay Region. Then, Soe Tun Aung and his friend Aung Aung accompanied the victim to Ruili city through Muse and sold her to a Chinese man for 30,000 Yuan and exploited her financial benefits. The suspect was prosecuted at the Hlinethaya Myoma police station under Section 24 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law.
Similarly, Kyaukme District Court sentenced two women and a man to 10 years imprisonment with labour under Section 24 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law on 22 July.
The victim Ma…, aged 19, from the Hsipaw Township of Shan State (North), was told that she will have K5 million per year if she acts as a surrogate mother for others, by Daw Sein Htay, Ma Satsuma (aka) The Nu (aka) Mi Mi Win Htay, Shan Lay (aka) Ye Htut, Kyaw Tun Oo (aka) U Htwe and Saung Hnin Wai from the Hsipaw Township. The suspects took her to Guangdong, China, through Muse, and received financial benefits by selling her off to a Chinese man for 150,000 Yuan. The suspects were prosecuted at the Hsipaw Myoma police station under Section 28(A) of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Law. —MNA
