Myanma Railways (MR) is set to start operating the new Korean air-spring train on the Myitkyina-Mandalay line from 21 March. Therefore, the existing train schedules will change slightly, according to the Myitkyina Railway Station.
“Starting 21 March, the Korean air-spring train will be operated between Mandalay and Myitkyina. The train will start at 1330 hrs. So, we need to fix the schedules of other trains running on the Mandalay-Myitkyina line from 21 March,” said U Khin Thaw, manager of the Myitkyina Railway Station.
“At present, MR is operating five daily trains on the Myitkyina-Mandalay line. The local train leaves at 0445 hrs for Myitkyina-Nabalaka, the express at 0815 hrs, the mail train at 0845 hours, the China air-bag train at 1445 hrs, and the Mandalay train at 1600 hrs. From 21 March, MR will run the new Korean train with air-spring coaches on the Myitkyina-Mandalay line. So, the current train timetables will have to change a little with the Chinese train with air-bag coaches leaving between 1030 hrs and 1245 hrs,” he added.
The new Korean train with air-spring coaches will leave Myitkyina station at 1330 hrs daily and arrive at the Mandalay railway station at 0745 hrs. The train will stop at 7 stations on the Myitkyina-Mandalay line. The train will have one restaurant coach, ten upper class coaches, and one ordinary class coach with 40 chairs. Tickets for Myitkyina-Mandalay will be priced at K20,000 for upper class and K10,000 for ordinary class passengers. “MR will run the Korean air-spring train on the Myitkyina-Mandalay line. So, passengers will not be allowed to bring foods with strong odor inside the air-con coaches,” according to the Myitkyina Railway Station.—Myo Myint Soe (IPRD) (Translated by Hay Mar)
