Training course on production of value-added dried fruit products opened

The inauguration ceremony of the Food Innovation Centre is underway.

The opening ceremony of the Food Innovation Department under the Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund (2020) and the training course on the production of value-added dried fruit products was held at 9 am yesterday morning at the Food Innovation Centre (FIC), Ministry of Science and Technology in Yangon.
At the ceremony, Union Minister for Science and Technology Dr Myo Thein Kyaw, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Myanmar Mr Zheng Zhihang and Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs U Win Zeya Tun gave speeches.
Then the Union minister, the Yangon Region chief minister, the minister counsellor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Myanmar, and the director-general of the Research and Innovation Department cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Food Innovation Centre and inspected the food production machines being produced.
Embassy officials, directors-general, rectors and professors from the six Mekong-Lancang countries: Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Viet Nam, and entrepreneurs from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry attended the ceremony.
A total of 55 participants from Myanmar will participate in the course on the method of producing value-added dried fruit products, and experts from the People’s Republic of China will teach online (virtual mode) for four days from 15 to 18 August.
Similarly, experts from the Research and Innovation Department will teach microwave technology, practices of advanced drying with hot air and advanced drying with cold air will also be taught.
In the future, the Food Innovation Centre will pilot the advanced drying of fruits on a small scale, and small and medium business owners and researchers from universities will receive good support, officials said.
As the development of new products from agricultural products will be supported, MSMEs will also have the opportunity to pilot scale test production at the Food Innovation Center to release their new products to the market, they added.
The Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Special Fund Project will enable regional countries to share project results to enjoy equal opportunities.
In order to deal with economic, social and environmental challenges, Myanmar will continue to participate in the Mekong-Lancang cooperation to strengthen mutual benefit and mutual trust among the member countries of the Mekong region. — MNA
