Tuyintaung pagoda festival to commence on Tawthalin full moon day

Tuyintaung tooth relic Pagoda festival in Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone will be held on the Full Moon of Tawthalin, U Kyaw Tun, Chairman of the Pagoda Trustees Board stated.
The pagoda festival will start on 29 September with donations to members of the Sangha at the pagoda terrace.
“It is a festival that is held every year on the Full Moon of Tawthalin. People from 18 villages around the pagoda donate alms to more than 70 monks. The Board of Trustees also participate in the donations. As a prelude to the pagoda festival, more than 30 religious groups from 18 villages recited Parittas at the pagoda about 10 days before the festival. A total of 30 members of the Sangha will also lead the recitation,” said U Kyaw Tun.
The event will begin at 4 am on 29 September with various programmes including alms donations to members of the Sangha.
Tuyintaung tooth relic pagoda is located in NyaungU Township. It is located on the western side of NyaungU Kyaukpadaung Road and about six miles southeast of Bagan. It was built on Mount Tuyin by King Anawrahta. — ASH/KZL
