It is reported that the two Myanmar skaters who participated in the Melaka Open Speed Skating Challenge (MOSC)-2022 held in Malacca, Malaysia, on 17 December won four gold medals.
Myanmar skaters Maung In Arr and Ma May Khun Arr participated in the competition, and Myanmar secured first in the 200-metre speed skating men’s and women’s competitions. Indonesia got second and Malaysia third.
Similarly, in the men’s and women’s 800-metre doubles, Myanmar was first, Indonesia won the second prize and Malaysia the third prize.
“On 1 November, the president of the Malaysian Federation contacted me. There will be a skating competition in Malacca. He said we can come for free as he offered to arrange our place. And he said that participating countries are still choosing.
“We won gold in the 200-metre and 800-metre pairs. The main thing is that it is an under-15 tournament, so it is a tournament where they send all the preliminary national team and famous players in the club and compete in the pot.
“I think the good thing about these two kids is that they can easily get to school every day by skate, which is about 10 miles away,” said Ko Lwin Lat, vice-president of the Myanmar Skating Sports Association.
The competition started in the semi-final stage and Singapore, Indonesia, India, Myanmar and the host country Malaysia participated in the competition, but India and Singapore lost early in the competition.
Maung In Arr and Ma May Khun Arr, who competed in the Malacca Freestyle Speed Skating Competition, are skating athletes from the Hlinethaya Hero Boys Association.
