U Zaw Zaw secures AFC Distinguished Service Award

Myanmar Football Federation president U Zaw Zaw garnered the AFC Distinguished Service Award, which is an honourary performance award of the Asian Football Confederation, during the 34th Asian Football Confederation Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 16 May.
The Asian Football Confederation is honouring U Zaw Zaw for his strong efforts during the COVID-19 epidemic and for his outstanding efforts in the development of football in the Asian region.
FIFA President Infantino and Asian Football Confederation President Mr Shaikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Kalifa presented the honourary performance award to U Zaw Zaw.
The AFC Distinguished Service Award is an honourary performance award that honours a person who has worked tirelessly for the development of football in the Asian region and who has made outstanding contributions to society along with football.
In presenting the award, Mr Datuk Seri Windsor John, Secretary General of the Asian Football Confederation, said that U Zaw Zaw built a 1,000-bed ICU/HDU COVID-19 Centre in Yangon and a 375-bed COVID-19 Centre in Mandalay and treated more than 12,000 COVID-19 patients free of charge during the COVID-19 pandemic.
U Zaw Zaw has also built free COVID testing centres and tested more than 22,000 people.
He has been actively involved in the football world and human benefit processes since taking office as president of the Myanmar Football Federation, he explained.
Currently, U Zaw Zaw is serving as the senior vice-president of the Asian Football Confederation, as well as the chairman of the AFC Social Responsibility Committee and as a board member of the AFC Dream Asia Foundation. — Ko Nyi Lay/KZL
