UEC holds launching of pilot project to verify ground population census for accurate basic voter lists in Lewe Township

The Union Election Commission makes concerted efforts in electoral processes following the 5th goal of the five-point road map of the State Administration Council—upon accomplishing the provisions of the state of emergency, free and fair multiparty democratic elections will be held under the 2008 Constitution.
The opening ceremony of the pilot project to verify the ground population census for the accuracy of the basic voter lists of Lewe Township was organized in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
The ceremony was attended by UEC member U Than Tun and members, officials of the Nay Pyi Taw Council and the Nay Pyi Taw Development Committee, the UEC office, district and township administrators, the district Immigration and Population Department head, the township Immigration and Population Department head, staff officers and staff of Union Territory, District and Township election sub-commissions, ward/village-tract administrators, 100-house elders and 10-house elders.
First, UEC member U Than Tun made an opening speech and the UEC members and participants inspected the work processes of respective ward/village-tract officials.
The work groups will use computer technologies to verify the accuracy of the basic voter list of 129,403 people in seven wards and 60 village-tracts in Lewe Township. — MNA
