Mandalay, 5 April — An educative talk on labour dispute was given at Swan Hotel in Mandalay on Saturday, according to Mandalay’s Union of Myanmar Travel Association (UMTA).
UMTA organized the event in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO), with the national project coordinator of ILO saying that the talk focused on how to improve the relations between employees and employers and negotiate conflicts arising from misunderstanding between them.
“Most workers here have no idea of their rights and no knowledge of laws.”
U Myo Yi, chairman of UMTA in Mandalay, said employers are responsible for helping their staff enhance their capacity and employees are required to commit themselves to their work. Participants welcomed the move and expressed their desire for similar talks in the future.
“The event has armed us with knowledge about how to settle disputes through legal channels,” said a tourist guide from Myanmar Travels and Tours.
The talk attracted employers and employees from hotel and tourism services, automobile services, shipping services and foods and beverages services.
