The construction of the underpass connecting Shwedagon Pagoda and the People’s Square is 79 per cent complete, according to the Yangon City Development Committee.
This underpass, linking the west entrance of Shwedagon Pagoda to the People’s Square, is intended to enhance traffic safety, provide convenient access for visitors, and develop modern infrastructure.
The project is divided into three phases, with the first two phases completed and the third still in progress. The underpass will be 23 feet wide and equipped with four escalators and two lifts. The construction, which began in October 2023, is expected to take about 14 months. — ASH/MKKS
