
Government places emphasis on development of agriculture and socioeconomic sector as well as food sufficiency of the people, Union Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation U Myint Hlaing told the 39th session of the Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN in Rome, Italy, on 9 June.
The union minister noted that Myanmar could reduce its nutrient deficiency index from 62.6 percent in 1990-91 to 14.2 percent in 2014-16 while decreasing 26.8 million people with nutrient deficiency in 1990-92 to 7.7 million in 2014-16, according to the FAO.
The conference was also attended by the FAO director-general, the executive director-general of
UNFPA and ministers and delegates from 197 countries.
