Union government, region government allot funds for prevention of landslides

DSC_3318Mandalay, 16 Dec —The Union government will spend over K1.7 billion from the fire and natural disaster prevention fund to prevent landslides in villages along both banks of Ayeyawady River in Mandalay Region in 2014-15 fiscal year.
Mandalay Region government also plans to spend over K677 million from its additional budget, according to the Department of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems.
The fund will be spent on construction of retaining walls, dredging of sandbanks and construction of steel baskets at 22 villages where landslides occur frequently, said an official.
The funds of both from the union government and region government will be spent on prevention of landslides in Singu, Madaya, Amarapura, Myingyan, Ngazun, Meiktila, Taungtha, Singaing and NyaungU townships in Mandalay Region. Min Htet Aung (Madalay Sub-printing House)
