Union minister, diplomats enjoy Thingyan Festival in Yangon

Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin, diplomats and personnel from the UN agencies and their families participated in the Thingyan Festival in Yangon yesterday.
They arrived at the pandal of the Yangon City in downtown and were welcomed by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and his wife Daw Khin Mi Mi Kywe, Speaker of Yangon Region Hluttaw U Tin Maung Tun, Deputy Speaker U Lin Naing Myint and members of the Yangon region cabinet.
They also visited the Splash Walk along the Maha Bandoola Garden Street.
Dato Paduka Haji Abdu’r Rahmani Bin Dato Paduka Haji Besir, patron of the Diplomatic Corps in Myanmar, sang “Lattee,” a song depicting the traditional bonfire festival of the Shan ethnic people, to entertain the dignitaries and the audience.
The dignitaries also enjoyed the entertainment provided by prominent vocalists, including Nwe Yin Win and Haymar Nay Win, and the performance of traditional dance troupes.
Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein and his wife hosted a luncheon in honour of the visitors.
“Diplomats and personnel from UN agencies and INGOs (international non-governmental organisations) enjoyed the festival here for the third time since we took over office. We organised this programme to convey our happiness and friendship,” said U Maung Maung Soe, mayor of Yangon City.
