Union Minister for Health and Sports Dr. Myint Htwe received and discussed cleft lip and cleft palate operation with Faces of Tomorrow founder and director Dr. Brian Rubinstein and party at the ministry’s office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday afternoon.
At the meeting Dr. Brian Rubinstein and party said the Faces of Tomorrow was formed in 2007 and according to its theme “Brighter smiles for a brighter future” it had been conducting medical, surgical and follow up services to children with facial deformities around the world free of charge and explained about surgeries it had conducted together with Ministry of Health and Sports in Myanmar.
Union Minister Dr. Myint Htwe said much experience was obtained by Myanmar dentists and dental surgeons when they conducted cleft lip and cleft palate operations with Faces of Tomorrow members. As the capabilities of the nurses from Face of Tomorrow were found to be very high, having nurses from state/regions participate in the surgeries will make them gain much experience. The ministry is making it a priority to raise the capacity of nurses and midwives and told of his desire for Faces of Tomorrow to conduct surgeries on cleft lips and cleft palates together with Myanmar surgeons and nurses so that Myanmar surgeons and nurses gain experience and expertise in cleft lip and palate surgery and other corrective surgeries.— MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
