Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation attended the ‘Our Ocean 2019’ conference held in Oslo, Norway, on 23 October.
Prime Minister of Norway Ms Erna Solberg delivered an opening remark at the ceremony, and international ministers and scientists discussed the topics on the global response to the threats facing the ocean, taking action on climate change, taking action on ocean pollution, taking action on overfishing and challenges in fisheries governance, food and livelihoods from the ocean, Building a sustainable ocean economy, and promoting and protecting a healthy ocean.
Union Minister Dr Aung Thu made a discussion on special fisheries management areas and the future expansion of fisheries conservation zones in Myanmar.
He also met with Minister of Ocean and Fisheries Mr Seong-Hyeok Moon from the Republic of Korea, and held talks on fisheries sector development and cooperation between the two countries.
On 24 October afternoon, the Union Minister discussed with Norwegian Minister for International Development Mr Dag-Inge Ulstein about the assistance of Norway for capacity building in fisheries sector and natural resource management in Myanmar.—MNA
