The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement presided over a meeting for signing MoU to protect children affected by migrating between Myanmar and Thailand yesterday.
During the meeting, Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khine explained the benefits of MoU, especially for migrant Myanmar children.
She also said Thailand is the leading destination of Myanmar migrant workers for its proper economic growth. But some of the children or newly born children in Thailand will face some difficulties to get the fundamental rights in full, like in the education and health sectors. Myanmar and Thailand are members of ASEAN and CRC. So the two countries can establish practical cooperation in protecting children rights. Then, the MoU will enhance the bilateral relations between the two countries.
During this government term, the needed processes to sign MoU will be carried out as quickly as possible.
Then, the relevant department heads clarified the drafted procedures of MoU, remarks of ministries concerned and Thailand officials, Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) to be conducted after signing MoU and pilot project areas in Myawady-Mae Sot out of designated areas like Myawady-Mae Sot and Kawthoung-Ranong. —MNA
