Cambodia hosted the 27th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council (ASCC) Ministers Meeting via videoconferencing yesterday.
The event was joined by the Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko.
The ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council Ministers Meeting was presided by Dr Hang Chuon Naron, Minister for Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia. In his speech, he said Cambodia has a strong belief in ASEAN values holding unity and economic connectivity in accordance with the 2022 Theme-ASEAN A.C.T: Addressing Challenges Together during the chairmanship. The priorities, initial steps and completions of ASCC this year can support the common aims. The results of the coming 40th and 41st ASEAN summits will reflect the objectives and achievements of ASCC. He also talked about the emergency health issue, natural disasters, equal education in the post-COVID-19 period, energy and food security, information, cybersecurity and challenges.
Then, Senior Officer of Education, Youth and Sports Ministry of Cambodia Dr Dy Khamboly reported on the report of the 32nd ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Senior Officials Meeting.
During the 27th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Council Ministers Meeting, they discussed the priority sectors of Cambodia during the term of chairmanships such as improvement of ASEAN standards, awareness and characteristics, human resource development and women empowerment, promotion of health, prosperity and social protection for ASEAN people, ability and effectiveness of ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, strategic plans of ASCC, approval of reports to be submitted at the 40th and 41st ASEAN summits, joint declaration (draft) of the 27th ASCC, Reopen, Recover, and Resilience in Education of ASEAN member countries and nine reports for the 40th and 41st ASEAN summits, another 23 reports and meeting minutes of the 27th ASCC.
Union Minister U Ko Ko then appreciated the 2022ASEAN chairmanship of Cambodia expressing the willingness to implement the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework and the Hanoi Declaration of ASEAN Community post-2025 Vision for ASCC.
He also added that it also reaches halfway to the 2025 ASEAN Community due to cooperation works of member countries in line with the rule and regulations of ASEAN and the support of the ASEAN Secretariat.
He agreed with the supportive activities for ASCC and priority sectors of Cambodia and welcomed the proper drive in the capacity and effectiveness of the ASCC, and he continued that Myanmar agrees with the declarations to be submitted to the 40th and 41st ASEAN summits. —MNA
