Union Minister for Border Affairs Lt-Gen Ye Aung attended a coordination meeting 1/2019 on border region development works implemented in fiscal year 2018-2019 held at the ministry’s assembly hall yesterday morning.
At the meeting Union Minister Lt-Gen Ye Aung reviewed the strengths and weaknesses of current border region development works implemented in fiscal year 2018-2019 with Union fund and requested suggestions on vital works that should be conducted for sustaining the works. The Union Minister also discussed on the matter of border region development works planned for fiscal year 2019-2020 to be conducted with Union fund, related works to be conducted with state/region funds, preventing overlaps in project works, ensuring transparency in conducting border region development works with Union, state and region budgets, to cooperate with a sense of duty and responsibility and the requirement to openly discuss benefits from conducting border development works and difficulties faced.
Next Progress of Border Areas and National Races Department Director General explained about border region development works implemented with funds allocated to states, regions and self-administered zones and region from the fiscal 2018-2019 fund.
Afterwards state/region ministers, self-administered zones and region leading body chairmen explained about vital works that should be conducted for sustaining the border region development works, works on roads, bridges, piping of groundwater seepage and from other water sources, requirements and wishes of the local populace.
Deputy Minister Maj-Gen Than Htut then explained about cooperation and participation of state/region governments, self-administered zones and region members in the border region development works, dos and don’ts according to set policies, questions raised by Hluttaw representatives being answered in coordination with Union, state/region levels and implementation of pilot project on substituting opium.
