Union Minister for International Cooperation U Kyaw Tin held discussions with UN Resident Coordinator to Myanmar Mr Ola Almgren and UNICEF Representative to Myanmar Ms June Kunugi, in their capacities as co-chairs of the UN Country Task Force on Monitoring and Reporting (CTFMR) in Myanmar for prevention of
recruitment and use of children, on 28th August 2020 at 12:45 pm via videoconference.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on matters pertaining to sustainably preventing the recruitment and use of children following the delisting of the Tatmadaw from the list of parties that recruit and use children in the UN Secretary-General’s Annul Report; possible avenues for cooperating with the United Nations for prevention of killing, maiming and sexual violence against children in armed conflicts; Myanmar’s possible participation in the Safe Schools Declaration; and possibility of including provisions on protection of children, schools, education and advancing mine action in Myanmar’s peace dialogues.—MNA
