Union Minister U Thant Sin Maung participates in ASEAN Information Harbour Forum

Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung yesterday participated in the 4th China-ASEAN Information Harbour Forum hosted in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China, via videoconferencing. The forum was jointly sponsored by Cyberspace Administration of China, National Development and Reform Commission of China, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China and the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
During the forum, the Union Minister said via video message that the China – ASEAN Information Harbour Forum has become a platform to discuss important issues related to the digital economy in the ASEAN region and share the views. He added that he believes China and ASEAN will have mutually beneficial results from the forum.
The Union Minister added that Myanmar is making efforts to accelerate its digital transformation efforts at the national level. He continued that Myanmar has considerable success in creating relevant infrastructure, and is drafting the Cyber-Legal Framework.
The Union Minister stressed that China provides much assistance to ASEAN and Myanmar.
He concluded that the forum is a major breakthrough in strengthening regional cooperation and will have become a collaborative effort to jointly create a connected digital future in the Asia-Pacific region.
China organized the first, second and third editions China – ASEAN Information Harbour Forum in 2015, 2016 and 2018, respectively. The theme of the forum this year is “Digital Technology Connects ASEAN: Intelligence Creates the Future”.
