The Union Chief Justice U Thar Htay said that the Supreme Court of the Union has received 1,853 legal cases and 1,406 cases have been examined within six months in 2023.
Regarding the trial of crimes, 747 criminal cases were received, 586 cases of which were examined, and 1,106 civil cases were received, and 820 of which were examined at the Supreme Court of the Union from 1 January to 30 June.
He highlighted that at the 25th coordination meeting of the Supreme Court of the Union and the regional and state high courts held on 24 August.
A total of 2,693 criminal cases have been received and 2,529 of which have been examined in the regional and state high courts. Likewise, 2,575 civil cases have been received and 2,628 cases have been examined (including 53 remaining cases from last year).
Meanwhile, 11,915 criminal cases were received in the self-administered zone courts, self-administered division courts, and district courts, and 13,005 cases were examined and resolved (including 1,090 remaining cases from last year).
Similarly, 7,830 civil cases were received and 7,824 cases of which were examined. 106,360 criminal cases were received in the township courts (including the remaining 3,639 cases from the previous two years) and 109,999 cases were examined.
Union Chief Justice U Thar Htay said that 9,261 civil cases have been received and 10,092 cases have been examined (including 831 remaining cases from last year).
In turn, 217 cases filed under the Children’s Law have been received and 199 cases have been completed in other courts established by law, such as the Children’s Court (Yangon and Mandalay). City Development Courts (Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay) have received 1,749 cases filed under the City Development Law and 1,733 cases have been examined. A total of 43,320 cases were prosecuted under the Motor Vehicle Law for violating traffic regulations and traffic rules in the Motor Vehicle Court (Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon and Mandalay).
He commented that they are working hard to ensure that the cases are properly investigated and completed without any delay.
He stressed that the courts should conduct regular and speedy adjudication of cases under the law, and cases that are being tried by private courts without delay, should be properly examined and resolved quickly.
The Chief Justice of the Union also added information related to the judicial sector, to strictly follow the instructions issued concerning the management of evidence including the need for employees serving at court levels to fulfil their duties and make efforts to achieve the first-year work plan 2023 of the Five-Year Judicial Strategic Plan 2023-2027. — TWA/KZL
