Untimely rains cause trees to fall in some townships of Yangon

Members of the Fire Services Department cleared the broken trees in some townships of Yangon due to untimely rains on 17 February, it is learnt.
Trees fell on the ground and the stopped cars in Mingala Taungnyunt, Thingangyun, and Dagon Myothit (East) townships causing roads blocked due to untimely rains, strong winds and hail in Yangon on the afternoon of 17 February.
Due to the interactions between the warm air from the Bay of Bengal and cold air from high-pressured areas, there were untimely rains, thunderstorms, lightning and hails in some regions and states between 16 and 18 February, announced the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH).
Rains are likely to be scattered in Nay Pyi Taw, Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi regions, Shan (North), Kayin and Mon states. In addition, thundershowers are likely to be spotted in Mandalay, Kachin and Rakhine with an 80 per cent certainty of rainfall. — TWA/MKKS
