Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win pays homage to Myonam Shwe Pagoda in Loikaw, provides aid to IDPs

Vice-Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Commander-in-Chief (Army) Vice-Senior General Soe Win paid homage to Myonam Shwe Pagoda in Loikaw yesterday morning.
The Vice-Senior General and party offered flowers, water and oil lights to the pagoda and went around the pagoda clockwise. The Vice-Senior General signed the visitors’ book and presented cash donations to an official.
Firstly, Myonam Shwe pagoda was built as a sandy pagoda dubbed as victorious one at previous Thiridaw Village in Kantarawady area, which is now the city of Kayah State, by King Alaungmintaya who also built other sandy pagodas along with his route marching into Ayuddhaya of Yodaya State in 1200 ME in Konbaung era. At a time when Thiridaw Village was built, the pagoda was named Ywanam Pagoda. When Thiridaw was renamed Loikaw, the pagoda title was changed to Myonam Shwe Pagoda.
At Ottarayon Monastery in Loikaw, the Vice-Senior General paid homage to members of the Sangha led by Abbot of Thirimingalapon (Hawgyi) Monastery Agga Maha Saddhammajotika Dhaja Kayah State Ovadacariya Sayadaw Bhaddanta Candima and took the Five Precepts. The Vice-Senior General supplicated religious affairs and sought the advice. The Vice-Senior General presented clothes provided by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement to displaced people who will return to new Ngwetaung Village and Hmonpya Village of Pruhso Township and urban wards of Loikaw from the monasteries in Loikaw where they stayed for disturbances of terrorists. — MNA
