Vice President Dr Sai Mauk Kham attended the foundation-laying ceremony of Buddha University in Taunggyi on Sunday morning.
Vice President Dr Sai Mauk Kham and his wife offered the gem casket, the gem foundation stone and offertories to the Sayadaw.
Then, the union minister, the chief minister and the commander and officials presented offertories to the monks.
Afterwards, the vice president and his wife, the chief minister and his wife, the commander and businessmen donated cash for the construction of the university. Well-wishers donated about K 1.4 billion for the university on Sunday.
Then, the vice president and officials conveyed the gem foundation stones and laid them in designated places before spraying scented water on them.
In the afternoon, the vice president and party went to Lashio and inspected Htinshu Myaing new town and the construction of affordable houses for government employees. Lashio District Management Committee Chairman U Myat Moe briefed the vice president and party on the project, completion of the work and water and electricity supply. Afterwards, the vice president viewed a model of the project.
The vice president and party also went to Zeya Mingalar Tarpon Monastery and donated offertories to the monks. In the evening, the vice president and party attended an homage-paying ceremony for the elderly to mark the Shan New Year’s Day. The vice president and party presented donations to the elderly in Lashio and paid respects to them in accordance with traditions. The elderly made good wishes for the vice president and party. Then, the vice president presented prizes to two six-distinction winners, and the wife of the vice president presented prizes to two five-distinction winners. The union minister, the chief minister and officials presented prizes to other distinction winners and those who passed the exam. On behalf of the distinction winners, six-distinction winner Maung Sai Hein Htet Aung expressed thanks to the vice president.
