Vice President U Henry Van Thio in his capacity as chairman of National Land Use Council (NLUC) addressed the 3rd meeting of NLUC held at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in Nay Pyi Taw, called for speeding up the implementation of the process for land use management process nationwide.
In addressing the meeting the Vice President spoke of the announcement of National Land Use Policy in January 2016, the content and aims of the policy, holding of coordination meetings and holding of National Land Use Policy Forum in October 2018.
The Vice President urged the earliest implementation of the seven decisions made at the second work coordination meeting and commented on the next level works to be conducted. A motion urging the government to review the National Land Use Policy to establish National Land Law, draw up national land use strategy, mid and long term project goals and work processes, draw up and implement policy frameworks was approved at the Second Amyotha Hluttaw 11th regular session 19th day meeting. The NLUC welcomed this decision of the Hluttaw and would work towards drawing up and implementing the National Land Law. Works would be continued towards drawing up a bill and submitting the finalized bill to Pyidaungsu Hluttaw. The work process stages would be conducted according to the guidelines set by NLUC, support of technical advice group and cooperation of other work committees, State, Region, Union Territory (Nay Pyi Taw Council) land use committees. NLUC members were required to strive towards systematic management of land resources, said the Vice President. Next NLUC secretary Union Minister U Ohn Win explained about works conducted on decisions made at the 2nd work coordination meeting.
Members of the Council reported on the completion of work and work in progress. Chairman of National Land Use Council Vice President U Henry Van Thio then provided a final comment on organizing work committees, importance of works of the committees and spoke of the need for the establishment of a good and systematic land management in Myanmar. — MNA (Translated by Zaw Min)
