Vice President U Nyan Tun delivered a speech at a ceremony to mark the implementation of the Myanmar National Export Strategy, here, on Wednesday.
Among those present at the Myanmar International Convention Centre (2) were U Win Aung, chairman of the Myanmar chamber of commerce, Ms Petra Schill, regional director of the German government-operated enterprise GIZ, and World Bank regional director Mr Ulrich Zachau.
In his speech, the vice president said the government has prioritised seven sectors at the national level including electricity, supply of drinking water, sustainable development in agriculture, employment, trade and investment, the financial sector, and tourism. A special taskforce has been formed to achieve desirable results in promotion of business and trade, he said. It has been seeking to ensure existing rules and regulations are in accordance with international standards, while identifying areas where businesses can be most competitive, according to the vice president.
The foundation of the Myanmar national export strategy, the roadmap for export competitiveness and expansion of export items, was laid down at the first Myanmar Development Cooperation Forum, the vice president added.
The vice president thanked the international bodies, government agencies and private organisations that helped develop a strategic report including the International Trade Centre, the BMZ and the GIZ of Germany.
The vice president continued that the Myanmar Trade Development Committee has been formed to assess the implementation of the export strategy.
The vice president pointed out that it is an opportune time to implement the export strategy and urged all stakeholders including ministries and organizations to cooperate with one another along the process. In conclusion, the vice president expressed his hope that national development including poverty reduction, rural development and inclusive growth can be achieved through the export strategy.
After the speech, Union Minister for Commerce U Win Myint explained the implementation of the export strategy and the heads of the international organizations extended their greetings. A memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Commerce and the International Trade Centre was signed at the ceremony and the vice president presented certificates of honour to the international organizations.
After the ceremony, the vice president posed for documentary photos with the attendees.
