Water-throwing festival kicks off in Nay Pyi Taw

Nay Pyi Taw, 13 April—People should enjoy Maha Thingyan festival by preserving Myanmar traditions and fostering nationalistic spirit, Nay Pyi Taw Mayor Union Minister U Thein Nyunt said at the opening ceremony of the central pandal of Nay Pyi Taw Mayor on Monday, Akyo Day of the festival.
Vocalists presented songs related to Thingyan festival to the audiences while damsels from 25 choir and dance troupes performed entertainments.
Also present at the ceremony were union ministers Lt-Gen Ko Ko, U Thein Nyunt, U Soe Win, U Htay Aung and U Ye Htut, deputy ministers and officials.
The union ministers, Vice Mayor of Nay Pyi Taw U Than Kyaw Htoo, Daw Ni Ni of Shwe Than Lwin Company and officials cut the ribbon to open the water-throwing pandal of Shwe Than Lwin Company in Hotel Zone in Zabuthiri Township on Monday (Akyo day of Maha Thingyan Festival).
Union ministers U Aye Myint Kyu and U Htay Aung, deputy minister Daw Thet Thet Zin, Daw Sanda Khin, Daw Lei Lei Thein, Daw Win Maw Tun and Dr Tin Shwe, vice mayor U Than Kyaw Htoo and Nay Pyi Taw Council member U Kan Chun formally opened the water-throwing pandals of companies in Zabuthiri Township.
After the opening ceremony, vocalists and artists performed entertainment with Thingyan songs to the audiences.
Revelers and people enjoyed Maha Thingyan festival at Hotel Zone since Akyo Day morning. MNA
