Myanmar’s former top weather official on Wednesday warned people in Chin State, the upper part of Sagaing Region and Kachin State to be alert to the possibility of thunderstorms over the next few days.
Lightning, thunder, isolated heavy falls, gale force winds and hailstones may occur due to cumulus clouds in those areas, with a 60-percent likelihood of such events in the next few days, said U Tun Lwin, a former director-general of the Department of Meteorology  and Hydrology, in a Facebook post.
Thunderstorms mostly happen in April and May in Myanmar.  Since 1980, the country has seen an increase in the number of thunderstorms, with more than 100 people killed by lightning strikes in some years, the weather expert said.
