Wheel makers survive in Tatkon Tsp despite modernization

DSC01990Tatkon, 22 June — Cartwheel-making businesses are surviving as family-run enterprises in Tatkon Township, supplying wheels for bullock carts in the face of more modern forms of transport.
It takes one month to complete a new cartwheel, a pair of which sells for nearly 250,000 kyat.
Use of bullock carts for transport and agriculture continues in parts of rural Myanmar, despite the prevalence of motor vehicles and mechanized farm machinery.
