Workshop in Ngapali focuses on strategy for improving tourism

27 1 20 Rakhine News 11 72The workshop on ‘Comprehensive Strategy for a Responsible and Sustainable Tourism Development for Rakhine State 2020-2030’ was held at Amazing Ngapali Resort in Thandwe District from 25 to 26 January, 2020.
The opening ceremony of the workshop on 25 January was attended by the Chairman of the Rakhine State Tourism Committee and Chief Minister U Nyi Pu, Rakhine State ministers, committee secretary and Director U Ye Aung Moe of Sittway Rakhine State Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, department officials, Hluttaw representatives, technical experts, officials from domestic and international affiliated groups, hotel and travel entrepreneurs, local residents and invited guests.
Firstly, the Chief Minister explained the Rakhine State Minister for Finance, Tax, Planning and Commerce received assistance from UNDP and domestic technical experts to organize this workshop. He then conferred certificates of honor on all persons who helped organize the workshop. Next, Director Mr Graham Leith Harper of Plastic Asia Travel Association (PATA) discussed on ‘Achieving Sustainable Tourism Development’, UNDP Chief Technical Advisor Mr Singay Dorji discussed ‘Environment and Social Management for a Responsible and Inclusive Tourism’, and Senior Associate U Win Min of Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business (MCRB) discussed ‘Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainable Tourism Development in Rakhine State’.
Afterwards, U Ye Aung Moe explained travel sector of Rakhine State, boosting regional tourism and future prospects and Daw Lin Lin, main consultant on the strategy, explained the designing and implementation of the strategy.
The workshop will cover six topics of interest including ‘Tourism Planning & Product Development’, ‘Tourism Legal Framework Development’, ‘Tourism Infrastructure Development & Tourism Financial Development’, ‘Tourism Human Resource Development’, ‘Social & Environmental Responsibility in Tourism Development’, and ‘Positioning, Branding, Marketing of Rakhine State’. —MNA (Translated by Zaw Htet Oo)
