The opening ceremony of the workshop on the ASEAN-Hong Kong (China) Free Trade Area Tariffs and Rules of Origin was held at Thingaha hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning and the representatives from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar were present on the occasion.
In his address, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Commerce said that the purpose of the workshop was to enable officers and private entrepreneurs from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar to make the most of tariff reduction on products of the ASEAN-Hong Kong (China) Free Trade Area and that the ASEAN-Hong Kong (China) Free Trade Agreement would contribute to businesspersons as well as consumers and called on the officers and private entrepreneurs to make effective use of the agreement.
He highlighted understanding the tariff rate and country of origin rules applied under the ASEAN-Hong Kong (China) Free Trade Agreement, and it will be possible to obtain the benefits of tariff concessions under the agreement.
Departmental heads, Mr Kris Shandi Soekatawi of ASEAN Secretariat and Vietnamese experts on respective subjects attended the workshop, which lasted till 4 July. —MNA/KZW
