At the workshop on enhancing rural nutrition with European Union (EU) assistance in Myanmar held in Office No. 15, Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Aung Thu spoke of the requirements for food security and nutrition to be conducted mainly in the agriculture sector, working toward planting variety of crops, raising income and livelihoods in a coordinated and connected way.
Next, European Union Deputy Head of Cooperation Mr. Pedro Campo Llopis explained about the reason for holding the workshop.
Ministry for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation will be cooperating with Ministry of Health and Sports in the agriculture sector to implement nutritious food to be accessible in state/region household level markets, raising income to ensure intake of variety of foods, food safety and increasing access to safe food that was drawn up in the MS-NPAN (Multi-Sectoral National Plan of Action for Nutrition) under the EU-FAO assisted First Program’s technical support.
Ministry for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation had been conducting agriculture sector development and rural development works with related departments and partner organisations and EU had been provided technology and supports.
EU was providing technical support via My Governance Project to monitor and review the project, M&E support to Department of Rural Development, technical support to Agriculture Development Strategy Implementation and Support Unit (ADSISU) and support all round works in nutrition it was learnt.
