MoNREC Union Minister speaks on the occasion of the world Ozone Day in Nay Pyi Taw Yesterday.

The use of alternative materials that do not deplete the ozone will play an important role in the development and maintenance of cooling technologies that reduce global warming, said Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi during a ceremony held to mark World Ozone Day at the Environmental Protection Department in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
“Businesses need to reduce their use of ozone-depleting substances with high global warming potential. By using a combination of energy-saving cooling control technologies and efficiency-enhancing technologies, ozone depletion can be reduced. In addition to reducing climate change, there will be benefits to prevent food loss,” the Union minister continued.
The Union minister also highlighted the theme “Montreal Protocol @ 35: global cooperation protecting life on earth” by saying that the Montreal Protocol has a broader impact on climate change and the theme emphasizes the need for countries to jointly address climate challenges and increase global cooperation to protect life on Earth for future generations.
As a member of the Montreal Additional Treaty on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and the London Amendments, Myanmar signed the Vienna Convention on Ozone Layer Protection in 1993, the Copenhagen Amendment in 2009 and the Beijing Amendment in 2012, and is implementing the reduction and cessation of ozone-depleting substances.
Afterwards, the World Ozone Protection Day commemoration video and the video message of the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme were shown, and the Union minister and attendees toured the display of cooling equipment and commemorative posters. — MNA
