World Press Freedom Day commemorated

The Myanmar Press Council organized the ceremony to commemorate World Press Freedom Day which falls on 3 May at 10 am yesterday at the office of the Myanmar Press Council on Merchant Street, Yangon.
Union Information Minister U Maung Maung Ohn gave an opening speech through video conferencing and Myanmar Press Council Chair U Ohn Maung (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe) gave a commemorative speech on World Press Freedom Day.
Next, Director-General Dr Thida Tin of the Media Development Department explained the media development activities.
Afterwards, a round of discussions was conducted under the topics: “National Development and the Role of the News Media” by Myanmar Press Council Chair U Ohn Maung (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe); “Responsibilities of those who produce and distribute news” by MPC Vice-Chair 1 U Myo Tun (Maung Sein Naung – Lewe), and “Democracy and Freedom of Press” by MPC Secretary U Aung Pyae Sone.
