“Express buses plying between Yangon and Magway will not be suspended despite the number of passengers has dropped sharply during the COVID-19 period, according to Magway Region Private Bus Lines Supervision Department.
“Although the express buses are operating between Yangon and Magway as usual, Magway-Yangon trip is operating with only three or four passengers on board. Last week, the number of passengers onboard the express had declined. There are only a few passengers who are travelling only in cases of emergency. When the bus lines were closed in the first wave of COVID-19, the passengers faced with difficulties for hiring taxis at exorbitant prices. So, we won’t close the bus lines this time to prevent a similar situation from happening again,” said U Myint Soe, the chairman of the committee.
“We have already informed the business to record the personal information and travelling history of the passengers, to make them wear the masks and put the hand gels on board the buses and to charge the passengers the normal bus fares despite giving them two seats,” he added.
“Those who will come from the stay home townships from Rakhine State and Yangon Region need to be quarantined for 14 days and also to undergo medical checkup at their expenses. Then, they have to be one week quarantined at home or facility quarantine, according to Magway Region COVID-19 Control and Emergency Response Committee. —Zayyatu (Magway) (Translated by Hay Mar)
