It has been raining heavily in Yangon starting from the morning of 16 to 17 August, reaching 6.69 inches of rainfall and 19.88 feet of tidal flow. Authorities have been managing to halt the urban flooding in Yangon and thus, Chairman of the YCDC Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay inspected the condition of the water flow of the Kyunggyi canal, which goes along Lanmadaw Township and flows into the Ywathit creek, and the status of closing flood gates of the Ywathit creek outlet, located on Strand Road of the Mawtin Temporary Market Ward and pumping water into the Yangon River with a pump capable of sucking 190,000 gallons of water per hour. Then, he instructed to fulfil the needs.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue along the coastal areas: Rakhine State, Ayeyawady Region, Yangon Region, Mon State and Kayin State because of the strong monsoon winds and the whirlwinds coming down from the East.
