Yangon plans to start COVID-19 vaccination in early August

The Ministry of Health and Sports conducts COVID-19 vaccination programmes across the nation under the guidance of the State Administration Council Chairman. The vaccination will be implemented in Yangon Region in early August, according to the regional health office.
“We carry out the vaccination plan for Yangon Region in line with the procedures in the third wave of COVID-19. We gave vaccines to inmates of Insein prison recently. The township administrative officials compile the lists for the vaccination. After this process, we will start the vaccination. We receive the vaccines currently. We will conduct as fast as possible in Yangon Region. We make efforts to start the plan in early August,” said Dr Tun Min, head of the region public health department.
Elders over the age of 65, health workers of the Ministry of Health and Sports, who did not receive vaccines previously, private health workers, volunteers serving at COVID-19 treatment centres, government employees, who did not receive vaccines the first time, will be prioritized for vaccines in Yangon Region. The township general administrative offices collect the lists of each township, and the regional health department will allocate the vaccines.
That is the second vaccination plan conducted in Yangon Region, and the first was conducted early last year. Sinopharm vaccines will be used this time in Yangon Region, and more than 300,000 vaccines are estimated for Yangon.  Currently, more than 4,500 patients, including monks, are receiving treatments at 51 hospitals and centres until 27 July in Yangon Region. — Myint Mo/GNLM
