Yangon Region Government met with volunteers for a new public transportation system in Yangon Region Hluttaw Building yesterday afternoon.
Yangon City is launching a new bus line on 16 January and the volunteers will help advice the public on new bus lines.
Yangon Region Chief Minister met with the volunteers and discussed the role voluntary service in the new public transportation system.
“We discussed the part to be played by the volunteers for passengers. There may be difficulties at the beginning. The volunteers will help solve their difficulties. We do not like the previous system,” said a student from the Institute of Economics.The volunteers include members of philanthropic organizations as well as those from university students. Hluttaw representatives and authorities will also cooperate with volunteers to help solve the difficulties of travellers.
The meeting was attended by Yangon Region Government, Region Hluttaw representatives, senior officials of the 88 Generation Peace and Open Society , philanthropic organizations civil society organizations, students from universities and volunteers.
The Yangon Region Government and the Yangon Region Transportation Authority launching a reform on public transportation system of the city, previously overseen by the All Bus Line Supervisory Committee. More volunteers have been invited at the meeting.
Yangon based companies will also contribute to the launching of the new bus system by changing office hours while some companies offered to transport to travellers in difficulty.
