Yangon Region plants 1M+ acres of paddy varieties

The Yangon Region Agriculture Department stated a total of 671,640 acres of high-yield varieties, 28,502 acres of high-quality paddy and 306,063 acres of native rice crops, totalling 1,006,205 acres of monsoon paddy have been planted in Yangon Region in 2024.
The monsoon paddy was grown in 18 townships of the region. As seven districts of the region were flooded due to heavy rainfalls in July, some planted paddy again.
Though it is estimated to plant 1,145,000 acres of monsoon paddy in 2023, it grew 1,148,222 acres. In 2024, farmers grew only 1,006,205 acres of paddy against the target of 1,148,222 acres due to the weather conditions.
The department also conducted discussions, talk shows, training, and demonstrations to promote the estimation rate and production rate per acre by adopting the GAP system.
Moreover, the department distributed urea fertilizer produced by the Myanmar Petrochemical Enterprise. The allocated portion for 2024-2025 monsoon paddy, summer paddy and edible oil crops is 3,394 tonnes for Yangon Region, and 680 tonnes were already distributed to the farmers until July-end.
In the 2024-2025 monsoon paddy season, 30 companies and seven cooperative syndicates earmarked to plant 91,056 acres in 12 townships in five districts through the State Economic Promotion Fund. The agricultural inputs worth K200,000 per acre are being distributed using the State Economic Promotion Fund. Currently, 18 companies and eight cooperative syndicates made contracts for 60,331 acres of farmlands of 5,016 farmers in 191 villages. – Nyein Thu (MNA)/KTZH
