The annual Yekyaw Thadingyut Festival is taking place from 10 to 14 October this year in Pazundaung township, Yangon, and a large number of people are thronging to enjoy lights, foods and amusement at the festival which comes alive since afternoon.
The vendors displayed their goods along Yekyaw road and some portions of Bogyoke road, Botahtaung road and Upper Pazaungdaung road where traditional foods are available during the festival.
Torrential rain caused closures of many roadside shops in the first night, but the festival was packed with many revellers as there was no rainfall in the second night.
While some famous artistes and celebrities entertained the public, temporary playgrounds have attracted to the children who were brought by their parents to the festival.
U Aung Naing, the Ward 9 Administrator of Pazundaung Township, said, “We are trying to promote this annual festival with developing idea.
And that we invite all the people to visit Yekyaw Thadingyut Festival.”
Member of Myanmar Police Force and Auxiliary Fire Brigade were found taking security measures together with the helps of local people and security cameras. Meanwhile, the ambulance service is put on standby at the festival.
Stage shows and Anyeint shows will be staged from 12 to 14 October.
The annual festival started small stages of performance on Witt Kyaung, Yuzana and Zizawa streets in Ward 8 of Pazundaung. This festival has been held for over 50 years, except between 2002 and 2010, and it resumed in 2011.— Pwint Thitsar(Translated by Aung Khin)
