Price of onions produced from YeU Township has been steady and Yangon and Pakokku are its main markets, at present.
“Onion has high domestic consumption. Onion is essential for all dishes. Onion price is announced by Yangon’s Bayintnaung and Pakokku which are our main markets. In YeU, onion price is regular,” said an official from Ko Hla Myo onion trading in YeU Township.
Although onion has foreign demand, there are some delays due to transportation barriers.
“Demand is likely to surge if roads unblock. For now, we have to export through alternative route. We have foreign demand too though, we can’t rely on foreign market only. We have to rely on domestic market as well, because there are some delays for exporting to foreign market due to transportation difficulties,” he said.
In March, onion price was pretty good as a result of high in foreign demand, however gradually declined back since the supply became abundant. — Thit Taw/ZS/ED
