Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA) has already issued over 9,000 driver smart cards to YBS drivers, said Managing Director U Aung Nyi Nyi Maw of the Yangon Region Transport Authority (YRTA). Now, a total of 9,049 YBS drivers have already been issued with the driver smart cards, said YRTA. Among them, there are also female drivers.
The driver smart cards have been issued, and the YRTA disciplinary team will conduct surprise checks on the bus drivers whether they have smart cards or not. “Moreover, suppose the passengers find undisciplined vehicles. In that case, they are urged to report to YRTA inspection team, calling Viber numbers: 09448147149, 09448147153 and 09448147154 and also sending the videos or photos as evidence,” YRTA confirmed.
The smart card contains the personal information of the driver such as NRC number, address and license number so that if any cases of accident happen, it will be easier to arrest the drivers. Also, it will be more straightforward for the authority to deal with the complaints and take action against the undisciplined drivers.
YRTA will also maintain a centralized database detailing the job history and work experience of the YBS drivers. This database will enable YRTA to quickly find the year of the work experience of the drivers. According to the data of the YRTA, over 4,500 YBS buses are run by 117 bus lines on 135 routes including the Airport Shuttle and the City Transit. The number of daily commuters is estimated to be 1.8 million before the outbreak of COVID-19. (Translated by Hay Mar)
