Mandalay Region Agriculture Dept targets over 1.3 mln acres of monsoon oil crops

The department targets a total of 1,361,097 acres across 11 districts of the Mandalay Region.

The Mandalay Region Agriculture Department will cover 1.3 million acres of monsoon oil crops in 11 districts of the Mandalay Region, said Daw Toe Toe Win, an officer of the department.
The cultivation of monsoon oil crops (peanuts, sesame and sunflower) commenced in early May. A total of 155,020 acres of peanut, 902,657 acres of sesame seed and 21,073 acres of sunflower have been cultivated so far, totalling 1,078,747 acres.
“The main objective of oil crop plantation is for oil security in the region. The region has self-sufficiency as oil crop cultivation is increasingly carried out in the region. The regional department is also providing post-harvest techniques, growing methods and pedigree seeds of each crop in the respective financial year. Beyond the peanut, sunflower, sesame and mustard are also planted as oil crops,” she elaborated.
