The ASEAN Football Federation has released the guidelines for the AFF Cup 2022 group draw to be held at the end of this month.
The ASEAN Football Federation will hold the tournament with the support of Mitsubishi Electric, and it will be called the AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2022.
The group draw for this competition will be held in Thailand on 30 August, and the ASEAN Football Federation released the sedan specifications last few days.
In terms of sedans, Defending champion Thailand and Viet Nam are included in Pot-1, while Indonesia and Malaysia in Pot-2, Singapore and the Philippines in Pot-3, Myanmar and Cambodia in Pot-4, and Pot-5 includes Laos and the qualifying team.
The ASEAN Football Federation will hold the tournament in the format of the 2018 tournament, with five teams participating and divided into two groups.
Each participating team will play four group games: two home matches and another two away matches.
Semi-finals and finals will be held in a two-leg home and away system.
According to the ASEAN Football Federation, the two lowest-ranked teams, namely Timor-Leste and Brunei, will play in the qualifiers, and only the winning team will be allowed to compete in the tournament.
The ASEAN Football Federation will hold this year’s tournament from December 2022 to January 2023, and the fixtures will be announced at the group drawing-lots event. — Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
